Board of Deacons

Hello church family members and attendees.  First Presbyterian has a wonderful selection of donated medical equipment (e.g., walkers, wheelchairs, etc.) that might help you with recovery and mobility issues.  It's all FREE of charge and you can get additional information by contacting George Nichols or the church office at (520) 836-5981.  He can let you know what's available and the check-out process.  Also, if you have equipment you'd like to donate for use by others, please contact George for those details as well.

Why You Should Consider Being a Deacon

In a sermon on November 11, 2023, Pastor Paul described the origin of Deacons as coming about during a time of the church's rapid growth.  At that time, the Disciples appointed a designated group of people, who became known as Deacons, to hand out food and money to ensure that "everybody who needed help was being taken care of."  The Disciples had certainly paid attention when Jesus said, "Feed my sheep."

Soon the Nominating Committee will be asking church members to consider serving in various roles at First Presbyterian Church.  The original role for Deacons cited above continues today and, in alignment with its original intent, here are some of the reasons why current Deacons have chosen to serve:

  • It provides the opportunity to serve God and the church in various ways.
  • It's personally rewarding and fulfilling to help others.
  • It's a great way to meet new people and make connections to people who attend both services.
  • We all have different God-given talents and skills to share.

Please plan to attend future informational meetings to help discover "hidden talents" so that you, too, can be of service.  As noted by a grandmother of one of the current Deacons - "You were put on this earth to be useful, not useless."  Pray for guidance as you consider ways to serve.  Thank you!
